Field guidance and identification limits
Shark Tooth Scout is an educational field companion. Its profiles, visual measurements, evidence-fit scores, suggested matches, and taxonomy notes support comparison and recordkeeping but do not constitute a guaranteed or formal scientific identification.
Single teeth can vary by jaw position, age, wear, preservation, and locality. Important traits may be missing or shared across related sharks. Verify significant identifications with measurements, local geology, multiple reputable references, or a qualified specialist.
Tides, conditions, and personal safety
NOAA tide predictions and Scout’s suggested hunting windows are planning aids, not navigation, weather, surf, flood, or emergency warnings. Predictions may differ from observed water levels because of wind, waves, pressure, river flow, station distance, and other local conditions.
Check official local forecasts, alerts, access hours, and current beach conditions before every trip. Watch the water continuously, avoid unstable cliffs and dangerous surf, use appropriate sun and footwear protection, and never enter conditions beyond your ability.
Collecting laws and responsible use
You are responsible for determining whether access, collecting, possession, transport, and sharing are lawful at each location. Rules can differ across parks, protected lands, private property, jurisdictions, and fossil categories.
Do not trespass, damage habitat or geological features, disturb wildlife or cultural material, or rely on Scout as permission to collect. Follow posted rules and instructions from land managers and public-safety officials.
Your records and device data
You control the photos, notes, coordinates, measurements, and other material you add to Scout and are responsible for having the right to save or share it. Avoid disclosing sensitive fossil sites or private locations without permission.
Scout stores field records locally. Data may be lost if records are deleted, the app is removed, the device is lost or erased, storage is corrupted, or a device backup is unavailable or not restored. Goodale Studios cannot recover locally stored records.
Third-party services and availability
Tide predictions are provided by NOAA, and optional system features such as photo selection, sharing, maps, backups, and App Store distribution are provided by Apple or the destination you choose. Those services are subject to their own terms, privacy practices, network requirements, and availability.
Features, reference content, station coverage, and operating-system requirements may change as Scout develops. Goodale Studios may correct errors, revise profiles, change features, or discontinue availability where reasonably necessary.
Acceptable use and license
Subject to applicable App Store terms, Goodale Studios grants you a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use Shark Tooth Scout on supported Apple devices for lawful, non-commercial purposes. You may not copy, resell, reverse engineer, disrupt, or misuse the app except where applicable law expressly permits it.
