Before you start

Shell photographs and local records are not uploaded to a recognition service. Optional online services, exports, device backups and future advertising have separate privacy implications described in the app policy.

The Seashell Scout core journey
Use this sequence to understand the main flow. Individual screens and labels may evolve with updates, but the product goal remains consistent: every shell has a story.
- Photograph a shell: Use one shell in focus and record only visible details. Do not disturb wildlife to obtain another view.
- Compare the clues: Read supporting, conflicting and missing evidence. Treat suggestions as possibilities, not verified species determinations.
- Keep the story: Save photographs, dates and field notes. An unknown shell is still a useful observation.
- Make a backup: Create a portable backup in Settings and store it privately. Full backups can contain original metadata and saved exact coordinates.

How to know the session worked
A clear photo, honest field notes and a protected record make a useful journal entry—even when the shell stays unknown.
